Since assuming office in 2014, the Narendra Modi government has put forward numerous proposals to alleviate congestion in the national capital. With a cumulative investment of over Rs 60,000 crore, 16 projects spanning approximately 870 km have been planned. As the government nears its tenth year, let’s examine the progress of these significant endeavors.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has successfully executed eight projects valued at Rs 24,600 crore, covering about 370 km of infrastructure. Notable achievements include the completion of the 135-km Eastern Peripheral Expressway in 2018 and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway in 2021. Additionally, the list of completed projects encompasses the 70-km Delhi-Panipat road and the eight-lane corridor connecting the Indira Gandhi International Airport to Dhaula Kuan.
Setting the stage for further improvements, an additional eight projects totaling 500 km are rapidly taking shape within the national capital region. According to documents from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways reviewed by News18, five of these projects are slated for completion by June, with one more expected by December. Although two projects may require more time, progress is steadily advancing.
Recent reports from News18 indicate that segments of two of these projects, namely the 30-kilometer Dwarka Expressway and the 76-kilometer Urban Extension Road, are anticipated to be inaugurated this month, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and infrastructure.
